The name of the Cetățuia Monastery reveals the destination that its founder, Prince Gheorghe Duca (1665-1683) intended for it, i.e. that of defending the local population against Tartar invasions. The exterior decorations are similar to those of the Three Hierarchs’ Church. In this monastery, a printing press has been active ever since the end of the 17th century. The monastery was completely restores between 1970 and 1980, when a small museum of religious art objects was also created inside.
